Six people lost their lives early Saturday morning following a grisly road accident at Soysambu area in Mbaruk, along the busy Nakuru–Gilgil Highway.
The victims, all men, were travelling in a Wing Road private saloon car that collided head-on with a bus belonging to Promise Company near the Soysambu stretch.
According to preliminary police reports, the driver of the saloon car was attempting to overtake another vehicle when he rammed into the oncoming bus, which was heading towards Nakuru.
“The initial findings indicate reckless overtaking as the cause of the crash,” said an officer from the Gilgil Traffic Base. “The impact was severe, leaving no chance of survival for the passengers in the smaller car.”
Police added that the six men had been travelling from Kisumu, where they had attended a burial ceremony, and were on their way back to Nairobi when tragedy struck.
The collision was so powerful that all six occupants of the saloon car died on the spot.
Images from the scene showed the car’s front section completely mangled, while the bus sustained significant damage to its front cabin.

Emergency responders and police officers arrived shortly after the 4:00 a.m. crash, sealing off part of the road to clear the wreckage and control traffic.
The bodies of the deceased have been moved to Gilgil Sub-County Hospital Mortuary awaiting identification and post-mortem examination, while both vehicles have been towed to Gilgil Police Station for inspection.
Police have urged motorists to exercise caution, especially on the Nakuru–Gilgil Highway, which has recorded several fatal crashes in recent months due to overtaking and speeding.
