Kisii MP Under Scrutiny Following Alleged Assault Over ‘Love Triangle’

A Member of Parliament from Kisii County is facing intense scrutiny after he allegedly assaulted a man in a local restaurant last week in an incident believed to be fueled by a suspected love triangle.

The victim, 36-year-old Omariba Moriasi, filed an official assault complaint with the police on Thursday, November 27, claiming the lawmaker attacked him while he was having breakfast.

CCTV footage from the food establishment reportedly captured the incident. The footage shows the unnamed Kisii County MP entering the restaurant, heading directly to Moriasi’s table, and beginning to assault him. The confrontation lasted several minutes before other patrons managed to intervene and separate the two.

Moriasi recounted the encounter, stating the lawmaker questioned why he had interfered in his private affairs.

“He stormed in directly to me shouting ati lazima utaniheshimu…. wachana na girlfriend yangu,” Moriasi stated, detailing the heated exchange.

Moriasi confirmed he suffered injuries during the assault and filed the necessary P3 forms at the Kisii Central Police Station on the day of the incident.

His legal team has since publicly questioned the failure of law enforcement to arrest the Member of Parliament, despite the complaint being lodged promptly.

“We filed this matter on Thursday, and we are asking why the member of parliament is still walking free. We have all the P3 forms,” one of his lawyers stated. The lawyers also expressed concern for their client’s safety, claiming the lawmaker may be attempting to cause further harm.

Update: Initial media reports and the victim’s testimony assert that an assault occurred. However, subsequent reports referencing reviews of the CCTV footage have led to conflicting conclusions. Some sources suggest the footage did not conclusively show physical contact amounting to assault, and that the case may have been motivated by a misunderstanding, while Moriasi’s lawyers insist they have filed the necessary evidence, including P3 forms, and demand the MP’s arrest.
