Deadly Attack at California Family Event Leaves Four Dead, Ten Wounded
A shooting at a family gathering inside a banquet hall in Stockton, northeast of San Francisco, on Saturday night resulted in the deaths of four people and left ten others wounded, US police confirmed. Authorities are investigating the incident, which they described as a “targeted” act of violence.
The tragedy occurred just before 6:00 pm local time. San Joaquin County Sheriff’s office spokesperson Heather Brent confirmed the toll at a news briefing, stating that 14 individuals were shot in total.
“What we have confirmed at this time is that there was a banquet hall where a family was celebrating. We have 14 victims of this shooting. Four of those are deceased,” Brent told reporters.
The victims, who span a wide range from “juveniles to adults,” were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Brent noted that specific information regarding the circumstances of the shooting remains limited, but early indications suggest the incident was not random. “Early indications suggest that this may be a targeted incident. Investigators are exploring all possibilities at this time,” she added.
The Sheriff’s office immediately urged the public to provide any information, video footage, or witness accounts to aid the investigation. As of the latest updates, no suspect has been identified or apprehended.
The severity of the event prompted a response from the highest levels of state government, with California Governor Gavin Newsom’s office confirming via social media that he had been briefed on the shooting.

The Stockton incident adds to a disturbing national tally. According to the Gun Violence Archive, which defines a mass shooting as an incident where four or more people are shot, the attack marks the 504th mass shooting in the United States so far this year.
